Heath Brunch Coffee Cake
Recipe from Grandma
Ingredients
- 1 stick (1/4 lb) butter
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ½ cup white sugar
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla
Topping
- 6 Heath Bars finely chopped
- ¼ cup pecans or almonds
Directions
Blend the flour, butter and the sugars. Take out ½ cup of the mixture and set aside. To the rest, add the buttermilk, baking soda, egg and vanilla. Blend well. Pour into a greased and floured 10 x 14 x 2 in. pan.
Topping:
Crush finely, 6 Heath Bars with ¼ cup pecans or almonds and add to the ½ cup mixture. Sprinkle over the top of the batter and bake in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes.
Notes
Heath Bars can be chopped using a few pulses in a food processor. Make sure not to turn them into powder. They should still have some chunks.
I know that I had seen Heath Topping in the baking aisle (I finally made it to the store and had the time to look) and there are 2 different packages. Do not use Heath English Toffee bits as they only have toffee. Use the other which should have chocolate in it.
